Deborah Gooch
Artist's Biography
Deborah studied painting at The Maryland Institute of Art as a Fine Art major. Her education led her to work as a freelance illustrator, commercial designer and decorator in Maryland and Florida. Her varied accomplishments in Florida include, decorating the award winning historical rooms in the Driftwood Inn in Vero Beach. She designed and decorated the theme parties for Silicon Graphics at IITSEC at The Peabody Hotel. She illustrated a cookbook. She was co owner of a restaurant design firm and was responsible for producing the company's artwork. She enjoyed a long career as an antiques dealer, specializing in 18th and 19th century American paint decorated furniture. She assisted in the conception and production of the Annual Center for the Arts Antiques Show. She was a founding member and president of Gallery 14 in Vero Beach.
For the past 21 years she has owned and operated Winter Beach Farm, a seasonal horse boarding facility, specializing in the "Equestrian Art" of Dressage. The dogs, horses, and people that surround her in this environment provide a constant source of inspiration for her paintings.
Deborah's paintings have been collected and displayed in galleries along the east coast of Florida, throughout Maryland and Virginia, in Michigan, Wisconsin, New Mexico and in California. She has shown her work in Florida at Gallery 14, Jill Pease Gallery and Teaching Studio, The Indian River County Courthouse and County Building, Backus Gallery in Ft. Pierce, Vero Beach Museum of Art, and at 5th Avenue Gallery in Eau Gallie. She exhibited at Polk College's Fine Arts Museum with pastel artist, Dawn Miller. She presented her most recent interpretive figural work, in a solo show at1090 Art Gallery in Vero Beach.
She was a contributing artist for the Turtle Trax project, which benefited the Mental Health association. Other charities include The Environmental Learning Center, Quail Valley Charities, The American Cancer Society, and the Humane Society of Vero Beach and Indian River County.
She currently teaches at the Vero Beach Museum of Art and she conducts painting and drawing workshops at Jill Pease Gallery and Teaching Studio.
Deborah enjoys working from candid photographs that depict the comedy of everyday life. Her composition is simple and color is strong. Her works are illustrative, bold, edgy and they reflect an intuitive style.
"My goal in producing art is to explore my reactions to the subject and to the medium. Ideally, others will enjoy, and participate in, the exploration."
